Romeoville hammer man trespassed at assisted living community: cops

A Romeoville man who killed his wife in 2010 was arrested for trespassing at an assisted living community in Huntley, police said.

John Sadler, 76, of the 1600 block of Benzie Circle, was warned not to return to the Deer Path of Huntley in Kane County on June 2, but police said he showed up there again June 11.

The Huntley Police Department obtained a warrant for Sadler’s arrest.

Sadler never lived at Deer Path of Huntley and it is unknown why he was there, according to Huntley police.

Sadler was arrested in the 1300 block of West Normantown Road in Romeoville in the early hours of July 6. He faces a misdemeanor charge of trespassing, according to Kane County court records.

In 2010, Sadler was charged with murdering his wife at their home in Romeoville during an argument. Police found Carol Sadler’s decaying body in a laundry room near the front door of the home after they smelled a foul odor. The Sadlers’ daughter had not been able to contact her mother for several days.

Three months later, the murder charges were dropped after postmortem testing revealed Carol Sadler died of a heart attack and not a hammer blow to her head.

John Sadler pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and concealment of a homicide and was sentenced to three years in prison and four years intensive probation.

Charges of aggravated battery to a senior citizen and aggravated domestic battery were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
