A Joliet man has been arrested on charges that he eluded a Crest Hill police officer in a high-speed chase and crashed his car in a wreck that left a 60-year-old man dead.
About 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Anthony L. Casterberry, 22, was taken to the Will County jail on charges of reckless homicide, aggravated reckless driving, failure to report an accident, possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated fleeing and with a revoked or suspended license.
Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark said Casterberry was identified as the suspect who drove a Mitsubishi Endeavor that crashed into another car, killing Suos Khloth on May 26.
Casterberry is being held on a $750,000 bond.
Casterberry fled from Crest Hill police at a high rate of speed after he was caught speeding near the intersection of Theodore Street and Edgerton Drive, police said. Casterberry then reportedly crashed into the car Khloth was driving near the intersection of West Jefferson Street and South Redwood Drive.
Casterberry and Jeremiah Grubbs, 18, of Joliet fled on foot after the crash, police said, but Grubbs was apprehended and jailed.
Crest Hill police are conducting an internal investigation of an officer’s pursuit of Casterberry. Crest Hill Deputy Police Chief Bradley Hertzmann said the investigation will look into if the officer’s pursuit of Casterberry was in compliance with the department’s policies and procedures.
