Ottawa contractor arrested on home repair fraud charges

Victim claims to have paid contractor for work never done

An Ottawa contractor was charged with home repair fraud on Friday after a victim said they paid for work that was never done.

Ronald A. Larabee, 64, Ottawa, was charged Friday on felony complaints of aggravated home repair fraud, home repair fraud and theft by deception more than $500.

Due to the victim being more than 60 years of age, a charge of home repair fraud was elevated to an aggravated charge, according to Ottawa Police Detective Sgt. Kyle Booras.

Ottawa police detectives investigated a complaint of alleged home repair fraud on the city's southeast side by meeting with the victim and inspecting the job site. They also reviewed financial documents related to the complaint.

The construction work was set to begin in early 2018 and be completed the same year, however, the job was not finished with the entire job being already paid for, according to police.

The case was forwarded to the La Salle County State's Attorney's Office and an arrest warrant was issued Friday.

Larabee turned himself in to the La Salle County Jail later the same day and posted $1,000 bail for release.
