A Cary woman and a Lake in the Hills man who was serving probation for a 2018 marijuana possession charge when police arrested him Tuesday is accused of possession 500 to 2,000 grams of marijuana, court records show.

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 24-year-old Ahmed Baig and 19-year-old Dezmariah Garcia on charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The most serious charge, possession with intent to deliver 500 to 2,000 grams of marijuana, is a felony typically punishable by as many as seven years in prison.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department could not be reached to provide further details about the charges, including how much marijuana the pair is accused of having, or how police came in contact with them.

Baig, of the 3800 block of Peartree Drive, Lake in the Hills, was on probation for a separate drug offense when police arrested him Tuesday.

In March 2018, following a month-long drug investigation, officers seized $1,900 worth of pills, cocaine and marijuana from Baig’s home, police said at the time.

Baig accepted an offer from the state’s attorney’s office on Feb. 11, and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver 50 to 300 grams of marijuana. McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt ordered Baig to serve two years of a special kind of probation typically reserved for first-time drug offenders.

Baig remained at the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday evening on a $60,000 bond. He would need to post $6,000 bail to be released. Baig is expected to make a court appearance Thursday morning.

Garcia, of the zero to 100 block of Timber Terrace, Cary, posted bond Wednesday morning and was released from the McHenry County Jail. She’s due back in court July 3.
