A Plainfield East High School junior earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

Jimmie Memishi took both the ACT and SAT college entrance exams, although he focused more on the latter since it is required for all juniors, according to a news release.

Still, he aced the ACT and scored a 1540 out of a possible 1600 on the SAT while he was at it.

“I was definitely taken by surprise,” Memishi said in the release.

He said he wanted the take the ACT even though it was no longer required because he felt the format might suit him better.

The all-conference tennis player is the first Plainfield student to earn a 36 since 2016 when two students, one from Plainfield South and one from North, did it.

According to a letter Memishi received from the chief executive officer of the ACT, only about a fifth of 1% of all test takers get a perfect score.

Last year, 3,741 students earned perfect scores among the 1.9 million who took the exam.
