EL PASO — Christine Senica will represent St. Bede Academy in next week’s IHSA State Track and Field Championship in Charleston.
The St. Bede junior jumped her way to state by taking first place in the high jump in Thursday’s sectional at El Paso. She cleared 4-10.
The Lady Bruins placed third in both the 4x100 (52.21) and 4x200 (1:54.39) relays on the legs of Antonia Cattani, Macy Bosnich, Anna Postula and Hallie McGuire, but did not qualify.
McGuire also placed fifth in the 200 (28.58) and sixth in the 100 (13.44) while SBA freshman Brady Mudge was fourth in the 3200 (14:00.84) and fifth in the 1600 (6:22.75) and senior Jane Barnes was fifth in the shot put (31-1 1/2) and discus (103-9).
St. Bede claimed fifth in the 4x400 (Abby Nawa, Abbie George, Emily Szczepaniak, Miranda Mazzorana) and sixth in the 4x800 (Pamela Needs, Nubia Sajuan, Abbie George, Mudge) relays.
A trio of Hall seniors placed in their final sectional in the red and white.
Jenna Parente placed third in the 1600 (6:14.88) and fourth in the 800 (2:42.33).
Raleigh Shilkuski placed third in the discus (109-3).
Gertie Savitch placed sixth in the triple jump (29-7 1/2).
Other individual place-finishers for Hall were sophomores Rayghan Haase, fifth in the 800 (2:44.82), and Maddie Hannon, sixth in the 100H (19.49).
The Lady Devils also placed fourth in the 4x8 (Maddie Ullrich, Katelyn Pullam, Haase, Parente) and sixth in the 4x2 (Maddie Hultz, Rachel Padgett, Molly Dalzot, Ariana Villalobos) and 4x4 (Villalobos, Sarah Croasdale, Haase, Parente) relays.
Host El Paso-Gridley (166) outscored the field by more than 100 points to take the championship. Henry-Midland (47) was fourth, Putnam County (43) fifth, St. Bede (38) sixth and Hall (26) eighth.
