NIU football transfer tracker: Jiya Wright becomes latest to transfer

NIU redshirt freshman Jiya Wright has entered into the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday afternoon, per his Twitter. Wright, who spent the first two weeks of spring practice at quarterback, spent the final two weeks with the Huskie defense as a safety.

"I'd first like to thank NIU for the opportunity to play for them," Wright said in a tweet. "They gave me an amazing year and amazing experience. I'd like to thank all my coaches, training staff, and everyone here in DeKalb for great memories. That being said, I am transferring from NIU to follow my passion of playing QB. My recruiting is nopw open."

Northern Illinois redshirt freshman defensive back Justin Hall, a Homewood-Flossmoor graduate, shared the news of his entry into the NCAA transfer Tuesday afternoon.

The move made him the fourth Huskie since the end of the spring to announce his incoming transfer.

"I would like to thank the current Northern Illinois coaching, athletic training, and operational staffs; along with the previous coaching staff that recruited me for everything they have done for me during my time in DeKalb," Hall said in a statement on Twitter. "My time has been phenomenal. With that being said, my time here has come to an end and I will be transferring. My recruitment process is now open."

Sophomore wide receiver and kick returner Fotis Kokosioluis was the third Huskie to announce his entry into the NCAA transfer portal, doing so Monday.

Kokosioulis averaged 16.8 yards on his nine kick returns a season ago.

"I would like to take the time to thank NIU, the coaches that recruited me, the players and friendships I have made," Kokosioluis said in a statement on Twitter. "Things happen for a reason and I trust God's plans for me. With that, I have entered the NCAA portal and my recruiting is now open."

Redshirt sophomore running back Jordan Rowell and redshirt freshman Erick Doke (a listed running back who had played defensive line in the spring) both had announced their departure this spring.

"I'd like to first say thank you to Northern Illinois for an amazing two years," Rowell said in a Twitter statement. "I would also like to think the entire coaching staff and operation because I wouldn't be as far along as I am without them. NIU will forever have a special place in my heart. I have decided that it is best for me to transfer from NIU and my recruitment is now open."

Doke also posted to Twitter on March 22, when he became the first Huskie after spring practice to announce his departure.

"First I would like to thank Northern Illinois University for an unbelievable year. Also my teammates and coaches. A special thanks (to) the training room staff for helping me get through tough times. I always will have love for NIU. With that being said, I have decided to transfer that it is in my best interest to transfer from NIU. My recruitment is now open."

NIU spring practice ended on March 22.
