Crystal Lake police make arrest in 2016 burglary of Tommy's Red Hots

Tommy's Red Hots was broken into twice in 2016

Crystal Lake police have arrested an Algonquin man for burglarizing Tommy’s Red Hots more than two years ago.

Police have arrested Jermaine T. Re, 21, in connection with two 2016 break-ins to the restaurant, located at 363 W. Virginia St., according to a news release from Crystal Lake police sent Monday.

About 8:45 a.m. July 5, 2016, a suspect allegedly used a rock to break a glass door and force entry into Tommy’s. A cash box was taken from the business, police said.

Police were again called to the restaurant at 2:12 a.m. Sept. 1, 2016, where officers discovered a blunt object was used to force entry into the business by shattering the glass entrance door. The break-in activated an alarm, and nothing was taken from inside, police said.

After a 32-month investigation, a suspect was developed and on March 21 an arrest warrant was obtained for Re, police said. Police still are searching for a second suspect.

Re is charged with burglary, criminal damage to property and theft. His most serious charge, a Class 2 felony, could result in up to seven years in prison.

Re’s bond was set at $50,000, according to the release.
