SYCAMORE – A Waterman man was released from custody on his signature after police say he dragged his girlfriend out of a car and onto the ground and threatened her.
Todd M. Martin, 41, of the 200 block of West McKinley Street in Waterman, has been charged with domestic battery and unlawful use of a weapon. If convicted of the most serious charge, unlawful use of a weapon, he could face 1 to 3 years in prison.
According to DeKalb County court records, Sycamore police officers responded to a call 6:27 p.m. March 30 at the 600 block of Brickville Road in Sycamore. Martin and the victim were in a car northbound on Brickville Road when Martin, who was driving, tried to push the woman out of the moving vehicle through the passenger door, according to court documents.
Martin was unable to push the victim out of the car and stopped at a nearby business, where he got out, pulled the victim out of the car and threw to the ground. Police say in court records that Martin stood over her and threatened her before he left the area.
A witness and her husband picked up the victim after seeing the car swerving violently and the events that ensued. The victim had a small vuy behind her left ear but refused medical treatment, records show.
Police stopped Martin's vehicle and recovered three loaded guns and a set of metal knuckles from inside. Martin has a valid firearm owner's identification card and concealed carry license, and he has one prior arrest for domestic battery, which included property damage, in 1996, according to court documents.
DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery set bond for Martin at $3,000 on April 1 and Martin was released from custody on his signature. Martin is due back in court 1:30 p.m. April 26.
