High school sports roundup for Wednesday, March 27

Johnsburg freshman Addison Mass piled up 10 strikeouts in a complete-game effort Wednesday as the Skyhawks opened the season with a 7-2 nonconference win against Round Lake, 7-2, in Round Lake.

Mass gave up two runs on seven hits in seven innings and walked three for Johnsburg (1-0). Avery Malueg finished 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Mass was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Kate Linkletter was 2 for 4 with a double.

Hailey Barack was 2 for 3 and scored twice, Adriana Montewska had two runs and an RBI, and Megan Patterson had a double. The Skyhawks had 10 steals, led by two apiece from Malueg, Mass and Sarah Metze.

Stevenson 6, Dundee-Crown 5: At the Rosemont Dome, the Chargers scored four runs in the top of the first but could not hold on in the nonconference loss to the Patriots. Mariana Lewis finished 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs for D-C (1-1). Abigail Arsenault and Alyssa Robertson both drove in a run.

Caleigh Gertz took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on 13 hits in six innings. She struck out five and walked none.​

St. Charles East 12, Hampshire 0 (5 inn.): At the Rosemont Dome, the Whips (3-1) suffered their first loss against the Fighting Saints and were no-hit by Katie Arrambide, who struck out six and walked four. Katie Del Re took the loss, allowing five earned runs in four innings with three strikeouts and a walk.

Southern Warrior Classic: At Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Marian Central beat Silver Creek (Indiana), 6-4, and lost to Beech (Tennessee), 9-4. The Hurricanes (2-5) wrap up their spring break trip with two more games Thursday.

BASEBALL

Huntley 10, Boylan 6: At Rockford, the Red Raiders built an 8-0 lead after three. Jason Peters was 2 for 2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored, Hunter Rumachik had a double and two RBIs, and Zach Model, Michael Talesky and Jake Lyon scored two runs apiece for Huntley (5-2). Model stole two bases.

Eli Paplanus allowed six runs (one earned) on two hits over four innings with seven strikeouts and three walks for Huntley. James Sibert picked up a three-inning save, allowing one hit.

Crystal Lake South 3, Wauconda 2: At Rent One Ballpark in Marion, Kyle Hetherington provided all three runs for the Gators with an inside-the-park home run in the third. Jacob Bimbi started and pitched six innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks. Beiker Fuentes threw the final inning and allowed an unearned run for the save.

Crystal Lake South 12, Murphysboro 2: At Murphysboro, seven Gators knocked in runs in a nonconference win over the Red Devils. Henry Tipton was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Fuentes and Ian Gorken both went 2 for 4 with a double and a pair of RBIs, and Nick DiBenedetto went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Ben Peltz had a double and an RBI.

Nathan Schlaiss earned the win for South (4-0) with four shutout innings. He struck out two and walked three without allowing a hit. Dominic Guzman tossed the last three innings and gave up two runs on two hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Gurnee Warren 8, Cary-Grove 4: At Rent One Ballpark, Will Klicker was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and an RBI in the loss for the Trojans (3-2). Ryan Weaver was 2 for 2 with a double, Ethan Estes had a triple, and Drew Stengren and Dymitri Kanellakis each had an RBI. Weaver took the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out three.

Mundelein 13, Dundee-Crown 3 (5 inn.): At Rent One Ballpark, Ryan Lascano had a double and an RBI in the nonconference loss for the Chargers (2-3). Max Warnke had two runs and a steal for D-C.

Prairie Ridge 4, Grant 3: At Rent One Ballpark, Michael Patterson gave up three runs in the bottom of the first inning but tossed five scoreless innings after that for the Wolves in a comeback win. Patterson allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings, striking out four and walking none. Holden Phelps had two strikeouts in the seventh for the save.

Keegan Garis (2 for 2) had a game-tying triple in the third and finished with two RBIs. Alex Power gave Prairie Ridge (6-3) the lead on a sacrifice fly. Brennan Kelly had two walks, a steal and two runs scored.

Palatine 7, Crystal Lake Central 3: At Crystal Lake, Alec Bolanowski and Jordan Daugherty knocked in first-inning runs for a 2-0 lead, but the Tigers (2-2) fell to the Pirates in nonconference action. Palatine scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie.

Dean Mlaka was 3 for 4 with a double, a steal and two runs scored, Daugherty was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Chase Alig went 2 for 3. Reece Mensching went five innings in a no-decision, allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Hampshire 8, Woodstock 1: At Woodstock, the Whip-Purs broke the game open with two runs in the fifth and four runs in the fifth, getting two RBIs from Gavin Kriegel. Ben Benoit picked up the win, allowing two hits in five innings with four strikeouts and a walk.

Andrew Krajecki struck out two in his inning of work, scored four runs, stole four bases and drove in a run batting leadoff. Thomas Ugalde scored twice, and Matt Jachec (2 for 3) and Nick Sladek each had an RBI for Hampshire (3-1). J.T. Wormley and Calvin Wormley had the only hits for the Blue Streaks (0-1). Tyler Waterson scored their only run.

Streamwood 12, Woodstock North 2 (6 inn.): At Streamwood, Bryce Nolan drove in one of North's two runs with a double in a nonconference loss. Jacob Laha was 2 for 3 with a run for the Thunder (0-3). Laha took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits in three innings.

Normal West 15, Richmond-Burton 0 (5 inn.): At Gulf Shores, Alabama, Normal West put up 10 runs in the first inning against the Rockets. R-B had one hit in the loss, a single from Dalton Wood.

Oak Mountain (Alabama) 16, Richmond-Burton 2 (5 inn.): At Gulf Shores, Alabama, Hayden Christiansen went 3 for 3 with a double in the loss for R-B. Griffin Taylor drove in a run, and Clayton Jarocki and Wood both scored a run for the Rockets (2-5).

Marengo 7, Bradford (Tennessee) 0: At Gulf Shores, Alabama, Marengo's Ryan Wilwers struck out 10 and allowed two hits in five innings for the win. Wilwers, Derek Peters, Aiden Smith and Justin Oine all recorded RBIs in the win for the Indians (1-4).

GIRLS SOCCER

Huntley 7, Rockford Auburn 1: At Huntley, Alyssa Xanos led the host Red Raiders (1-2-1) with two goals in an opening win at the Huntley invite. Avery Fitzgerald had a goal and two assists, Madissen Gough had a goal and an assist, and Savanna Zoellner had two assists.

Emma Vasconez, Braidy Ceh and Peyton Scholer also had goals for the Raiders, Gen Porsche tallied an assist, and Jenna Franklin and Ashley Lovins both had a save. Huntley plays St. Charles East at 1 p.m. in their next tournament game.

West Chicago 5, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, the Whips fell to 0-3 with a loss to the Wildcats.
