Tyler, Founders elementary schools in DeKalb receive grants for breakfast programs

DeKALB – Two elementary schools in DeKalb School District 428 have received breakfast grants through the Breakfast After the Bell program.

According to a news release from Rise and Shine Illinois, Tyler and Founders elementary schools each received a portion of more than $37,000 in grant money from Rise and Shine Illinois and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.

Each school will receive up to $5,000 toward the 2018-19 school year, according to the release.

The Breakfast After the Bell program is an initiative meant to ensure all students have access to a healthy breakfast during the school day, which can affect student success, the release says.

Schools wishing to apply for a Breakfast After the Bell grant for the 2019-20 school year have until March 4 and should visit Rise and Shine Illinois' website to fill out an application.
