The Bolingbrook Park District is moving forward with its plan to make several upgrades to its parks and facility with a community feedback session later this month.
Last November, Bolingbrook Park District residents voted with a 62 percent majority to grant nearly $14 million in bonds over a 20-year period to make the improvements. The plan for the Capital Asset Replacement Program is to replace 21 playgrounds throughout the village and update and pave various facilities.
The park district is seeking design input from residents on five new playgrounds that are slated to be completed in 2019. Those five playgrounds, Remington Lakes, Lily Cache Greenway, Poplar, Heritage and Jaycee, will cost a projected $595,000, according to the park district’s website.
For those interested in learning more, there will be a "Playground Planning Community Feedback Session" from 6 to 7:30 p.m Jan. 22. It will take place at the Bolingbrook Recreation and Aquatics Complex, located at 200 S. Lindsey Lane in Bolingbrook.
There will be a second session on Feb. 19, which will include a more definitive plan for each of the initial five playgrounds based on the input the district receives. The target date of research completion is March 1.
In total, the upgrades to the 21 playgrounds will cost about $2,525,000. The upgrades will take place through 2023.
The park district also is planning to make upgrades to the BRAC, including a new entrance, program rooms, family changing rooms and other locker room improvements. It also aims to add to its Pelican Harbor Lazy River Island, including a new bridge, grass and shade structures for visitors.
There also will be an additional pathway connection made in the area of the intersection of Weber Road and Hassert Boulevard though Bradford and Drafke Parks, crossing Lily Cache Creek.
These other improvements will total about $794,000 in 2019, according to the district.
