Camfil set to expand, add new products in Crystal Lake

Business recently broke ground on new building

A Swedish business is expanding in Crystal Lake, which is expected to create new jobs.

Camfil, 500 S. Main St., recently broke ground on a 50,000-square-foot expansion that will add six new product lines to its Illinois facility, said Heather Maieritsch, the city’s economic development manager.

Camfil is a worldwide manufacturer of air filters for commercial and industrial systems providing air filtration and air pollution control. It has 28 manufacturing plants globally and 24 production units.

The company produces a wide array of products and services, ranging from molecular filters to fan filter units.

The Crystal Lake facility produces
26 million products and anticipates producing 60 million after the renovation is complete, Maieritsch said.

“What is even more impressive is that less than 10 years ago, this location was slated to be shut down due to poor performance. New management dedicated to the success of this location were key to not only turning this underperforming location around, but enabling this facility to undergo its largest expansion to date,” Maieritsch said in a statement.

The group, headquartered in Stockholm, has 3,800 employees and sales of more than $760 million, according to the company website.

International markets account for almost 95 percent of sales.

Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley called the company “a classic success story.”

“With their 50,000-square-foot expansion, they will be creating many new job opportunities and will be more than doubling their production,” he said.
