Visitors will no longer be able to watch the lock in operation from any of the Waterway Visitor Centers along the Illinois River, including the one across the Illinois River from Starved Rock State Park on Dee Bennett Road.
The Illinois Waterway Visitor Center will be closing its doors indefinitely due to federal budget cuts beginning Monday, Oct. 1, according to a press release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The lock and dam series will still be fully operational. There is no timeline for reopening the center. Groups with already scheduled tours will be accommodated.
