Judge rules against physical therapist accused of groping

A Crystal Lake physical therapist accused of groping a patient received a sentence Thursday that could have the arrest removed from his record.

Wearing a set of navy blue scrubs, physical therapist Michael Lim closed his case Thursday by agreeing in court that prosecutors had certain facts and testimony that potentially could have been used at trial.

The acknowledgment wasn’t an admission of guilt and didn’t result in a conviction of the misdemeanor battery charge filed against him.

Instead, McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt sentenced Lim to serve one year of court supervision. If Lim successfully completes the term, he could chose to have the arrest removed from his record.

Lim, 40, of Huntley also must undergo a sex offender evaluation, prosecutors said.

His arrest stemmed from a police investigation into a woman's claim that on Sept. 26, Lim groped her while giving her a massage.

Police issued a warrant for Lim’s arrest, and he turned himself in shortly after.

At the time, Lim worked as a physical therapist with Crystal Lake-based Advanced Pain Rehab.

It was not immediately clear whether Lim has continued to practice physical therapy in the area, although the business is mentioned by name in the outgoing voice mail associated with Lim’s personal phone number.

Lim’s license to practice physical therapy would not be affected by the charge unless a judge ordered his license to be revoked, Illinois Department of Professional Regulations representatives have said.

As of Thursday, Lim’s license was active and set to expire at the end of the month.

Lim could not immediately be reached for comment.
