Former Fox River Grove dentist accused of sexual assault released on bond

A former dentist accused of sexually assaulting an underage girl he knew was released from the McHenry County Jail on bond Thursday morning.

Bryan D. Stahl was freed after $5,000 bail was posted on his behalf, jail records show.

Fox River Grove police arrested Stahl on Tuesday on claims he sexually assaulted and abused a juvenile girl, a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court stated.

Stahl, 57, was scheduled for a bond hearing Friday morning. He was given a new court date, however, once he was released.

Stahl now is due to go before a judge Sept. 5.

He faces charges of criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and domestic battery.

A conviction on the most serious charge, criminal sexual assault, could land Stahl behind prison bars for as many as 15 years.

Stahl has no criminal history in McHenry County, public records show

At a brief court appearance Tuesday, McHenry County Judge Jeffrey Hirsch appointed a public defender to represent Stahl on the charges.

Police have declined to comment on the matter while the investigation is ongoing.
