McHenry County Fair talent contest set Friday

The 54th McHenry County Fair talent contest will take place Friday.

This year will be feature a tight competition, said Kathy Thomas, who has coordinated the show for about 40 years. Juniors start at 7 p.m., followed by seniors at 8:30 p.m. in the Hansen Pavilion.

The contest entry period has passed, and a preliminary round took place Sunday.

Cash prizes for the top three winners in each division totals $900. These contestants will compete Friday night:

Juniors

• Olivia Wilhelmi, Crystal Lake – vocals

• Hannah Barnes, Woodstock – vocals

• Julia Smitendorf, Lake in the Hills – vocals

• Tooting Toddlers, Woodstock – novelty

• Hannah Kaufman, Woodstock – vocals/ukulele

• Rebecca Banner, Crystal Lake – dance

• Alexis Schwartz, McHenry – vocals

• Autumn Skye Braxton, Cary – vocals

• Zoe Vahos, Crystal Lake – vocals

• Grace Jansen, Crystal Lake – vocals

• Claire Jansen, Crystal Lake – vocals

Seniors

• Kiara Martel, Cary – vocals

• Megan McDillon, Cary – vocals

• Jamie Kayser, Island Lake – vocals

• Nathan Barnes, Woodstock – yo-yo

• Levi Austin, Harvard – guitar

• Elizabeth Sullivan, Lake in the Hills – vocals

• Janelle Janiga, Crystal Lake – vocals

The McHenry County Fair runs through Sunday at the fairgrounds, 11900 Country Club Road, Woodstock. Daily tickets cost $8 for adults (age 13 and older); $5 for seniors (age 60 and older), children and veterans; and are free for children younger than 5. There is no extra fee to watch the talent contest.
