Iowa man dies in I-80 crash near Ladd

A Davenport, Iowa, man died Sunday following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Ladd in Bureau County.

At 4:43 p.m. Sunday, Rajak Singh Randhawa, 28, was traveling westbound on I-80 in a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox when his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and entered the shoulder of the westbound lanes, according to Illinois State Police.

Randhawa then lost control of the vehicle, entered the center median and overturned multiple times. Randhawa was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lanes and caught fire.

Randhawa was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to state police.

All lanes on the interstate were closed for about 35 minutes to extinguish the vehicle fire.

Illinois State Police District 17 was assisted by the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Ladd Fire Department and 10-33 Ambulance Service. The incident is under investigation by the state police and the Bureau County Coroner’s Office.
