Cary Park District to host 'Thank You Timbertown' event

Timbertown has been around for
24 years inside Kaper Park in Cary, and in the first week of July, the community will say goodbye to the wooden castle.

“Thank You Timbertown” is an event scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. July 7 in Kaper Park, located off of Georgetown Drive.

During the event, guests can play on the structure one last time before a new playground takes its place, according to a news release from the Cary Park District. The playground has “reached the end of its useful life,” according to the park district.

Each family who visits will have the chance to receive a keepsake booklet and a commemorative Timbertown ornament. There will be an ice cream truck present for refreshments.

Commemorative T-shirts will be on sale through Sunday and can be picked up at the community center before the event. T-shirts are $12 each and can be bought at carypark.com or at the community center, 255 Briargate Road, Cary.

Kaper Park will close July 9 and a new playground will be built to replace Timbertown. Construction is expected to finish by the end of this year.

Improvements will include a new playground, restrooms, a splash pad and a walkway, according to the release.

If donors to the park would like to collect their posts that were built into the playground with their name on it, they can request their picket to be saved by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/r/TJQBVNX. The form must be completed by July 8.
