SHERIDAN — Eva Jane Huber, 68, of Sheridan, passed away Wednesday, May 9, at Joliet Area Community Hospice.
Jane was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Campbellsville, Ky., to Lester E. and Eva Opal (Underwood) Oakes.
She had worked many years as an administrative assistant at Sheridan Correctional Center and then five years as a clerk at the Kendall County Clerk’s Office.
She had attended Serena United Methodist Church, was a volunteer at Valley West Community Hospital and had been an EMT with Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department.
Her great joy was playing with her dog, Precious, and listening to George Strait.
Jane is survived by her two daughters, Gretchen (Peter) Laska, of Glen Ellyn, and Jennifer (Mark) Shafer, of Arcola; her four grandchildren, Austin Shafer, Sydnee Shafer, Ava Laska and Camryn Laska; two sisters, Martha Smith, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Sue (Jack) Espeland, of Sheridan; and two brothers, James (Becky) Oakes, of Norway, and David (Brenda) Oakes, of Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jeffery Lee Huber, on Feb. 27, 2013; and a brother, Bobby Oakes.
A gathering of family and friends will start at 5 p.m. Monday, May 14, followed with a memorial service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Kirk Scott officiating at Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home in Sheridan. Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date in Sheridan Cemetery.
