Police: Lockport man punches, chokes girlfriend

Suspect previously convicted of battery

JOLIET – A Lockport man punched and choked his girlfriend several times at Hollywood casino, police said.

About 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Marques D. Hinton, 28, of the 200 block of Reverend Walton Drive in Lockport was arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic battery in connection with the incident. Hinton was taken to the Will County jail.

Hinton and his girlfriend were at Hollywood Casino, 777 Hollywood Blvd., when he struck her with a closed fist in the face and choked her numerous times, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.

Hollywood Casino security staff met with the couple after the battery occurred, Gregory said. Joliet police officers then arrived and learned from the girlfriend that Hinton became upset and struck her in the face while she was sitting in a chair.

The girlfriend accused Hinton of knocking her out of the chair and said she landed on the floor with him on top of her and that he then choked her, police said.

“Officers observed redness to the [victim’s] throat, neck and upper chest area,” Gregory said.

She was offered medical attention but declined.

In 2017, Hinton pleaded guilty to aggravated battery. He was ordered to serve 52 days in jail and given three years’ probation.

In 2012, he pleaded guilty to unlawful restraint. A charge of domestic battery was dropped.
