Mud bog was the place to get muddy

The Rock River Riders Motorcycle Club’s annual Spring Mud Bog was the place to get downright muddy on Saturday.

Dozens of vehicles attempted to drive through nearly 300 feet of mud during the event, held at the club’s grounds, located east of Polo on Pines Road across from the entrance to White Pines State Park.

Competitor’s whose vehicles stalled out or got stuck in the bog were pulled out by a pulley system powered by a large Ford farm tractor operated club member Lance LeFevre, of Mt. Morris.

The Dandy Driver Class followed the Class 4 competitors whose muscled-up trucks flew through the man-made course tossing chunks of mud into the air to the crowd’s delight.

The club was founded in 1935 and was known for its hill climb event, held just to the west of what once was the Pines Drive-In Theater. When the theater closed, the club purchased the land it was on, and eventually added other events.

Saturday’s event also included a hillclimb demonstration, ATV and UTV races, a race for little boggers on their battery-operated toys, and the ever-popular and especially messy “run the bog” race for kids, men, and women.

Upcoming Events

The club’s 2018 schedule includes a hillclimb on June 17 and nighttime hill climb in July 21. Another mud bog race will be held Aug. 12.

The June 17 hillclimb begins at 11 a.m. and the July 21 hillclimb begins at 2 p.m. Admission is a $10 donation for adults.
