Cor Cantiamo, a 24-voice professional touring choral ensemble based at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, will return to St. James Cathedral in Chicago for its May 20 concert at 3 p.m.
The group will premier a new work, "When Did We See You?," specially written for them by Dominick DiOrio, an innovative young composer who has won widespread acclaim for his contributions to American music. This commission is funded by the Soli Deo Gloria Music Foundation.
"When Did We See You?" is a work about the difference we can make by caring for those in need, and about the divinity inherent in every human. The music borrows from the tradition of the blues, with all of the scales, the call-and-response textures, and the 12-bar form that makes the genre so resonant.
Tickets will be available at the door or online at https://corcantiamo.ticketleap.com/stjames-2018/.
