Police: Beecher man dies in crash on I-394

CRETE – A 56-year-old man died Monday morning after his pickup truck caught fire in a car crash, according to the Illinois State Police.

State police responded to a single-vehicle crash about 7:43 a.m. Monday on Interstate 394 at Route 1 in Crete, police said in a news release.

Cordell Williams, 56, of Beecher, was the driver of a pickup truck that went into the right ditch of the highway, where it caught fire, police said. Williams was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.

State police investigated the deadly crash throughout Monday morning.
