Cody Alan Penick, 18, of Franklin Grove, is Ashton-Franklin Center’s April Student of the Month. Cody’s parents are Tony and Kim Penick and he has two siblings, Camdyn and Cambree.
Favorite class: Social issues. It was fun to talk about what is going on in society.
Least-favorite class: Anatomy. It was hard to memorize the parts of the body.
Favorite teacher: Travis Stauffer, because he is a fun teacher and easy to get along with.
School activities in which you participate: Football, basketball, baseball, Student Council, National Honor Society
Civic, church, volunteer or other activities in which you participate: I volunteer as a mentor and tutor at school and at the Kitchen Table in Rochelle.
Do you have a job? I work at Yogi Bear Campground.
How would you describe your group of friends? We like to hang out and have as much fun as possible.
What will you do after high school? Attend Western Illinois University to earn a degree in law enforcement.
What is something you learned in high school that you think you'll never use? Geometry
What kind of music are you listening to? Hip hop and rap
What's one thing in your life you can't do without? Pizza
What is your advice for surviving high school? Do your homework and projects and finish them on time.
If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? There would be more extracurricular activities.
What scares you? Tarantulas
If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? Zoologist, so I could hang out with all kinds of animals for a day.
If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Australia, to see the wildlife and explore what it has to offer, including beaches.
What is a good book you have read recently? "Hero" by Mike Lupica
What is your proudest moment? Getting accepted to Western Illinois University and receiving scholarships.
Who is your hero, role model? My dad
What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? I think I will be living in a suburb, working as a federal agent or for the state police
Is there anything else that you want people to know about you? I love collecting shoes.
What is a life philosophy that you try to abide by? Live life to the fullest, life is short.
