OREGON – Fans of Mexican food are welcoming an old friend to town.

Dos Amigos, a popular Byron eatery for the past several years, slid into Oregon in the spot that formerly housed Pizza Hut, 404. E Washington St.

The doors opened Feb. 16, and according to manager Francisco Quezada, the response from local diners has been good.

“The people here have been very happy, especially now that they don’t need to travel, and can have Dos Amigos right in their city,” said Quezada.

Quezada opened the Byron location 7 years and he’s been looking to expand into Oregon for the past few years. Until recently, he hasn’t been able to find the right spot at the right time – that is, until Pizza Hut put up the closed sign for good.

“We’ve wanted to move into Oregon for a long time now. I really like the people here,” Quezada said. “We finally found a nice building and made it happen.”

Dos Amigos offers favorite south-of-the-border standbys – burritos, tacos and more – and also serves up – fajitas, paella, and other menu offerings. All told, the menu boasts nearly 140 items.

It also offers lunch specials and express lunches, as well as 10 items for kids.

If a few drinks are your pleasure, Dos Amigos carries a selection of domestic beers, and seven imports, including Dos Eqius, Corona, and Tecate.

Naturally, there’s a variety of margaritas, big and small, all they up to 45 ounces – or a pitcher, if you feel like sharing.

While the local fans of his food were a big reason for Quezada’s expansion into Oregon, he said the town’s tourist traffic was also a draw.

Between Autumn On Parade, the Tour Of Scenic Ogle County bike event, Rockin’ On The River, and more, Oregon gets a steady traffic flow of tourists, and that’s good for a business’ revenue stream.

“In the summer, lots of people travel in,” he said.

Loyal locals or out-of-town visitors, Quezada wants them all to know that when they walk through his doors, they’ll always find a friend.
