Joliet police introduce furry officers, Nevil and Ady

Both K-9s can handle tracking, searching and more

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department introduced two new K-9s on its Facebook page Tuesday, and the internet welcomed them.

The department received Nevil and Ady — pronounced "Ottie" — in October 2017, and the two went to work. Both dogs completed six weeks of training with officers Robert “Bert” Badertscher and Bruce Trevillian. They next trained with their handlers, officers Adam Stapleton and Daniel Willis.

Their first days were in January.

The dogs are certified through the State of Illinois and North America Police Work Dog Association as dual-purpose, meaning they can handle narcotics searching, tracking, area searches, article searches and building searches.

Stapleton's partner, Nevil, is an 18-month-old one-half Dutch shepherd, one-half German Shepherd, who was born in eastern Europe.

Ady, a 1-year-old German shepherd, is Willis' partner. Ady was also born in eastern Europe.
