Wonder Lake woman charged with drug-induced homicide in overdose death

A 32-year-old woman is facing drug-induced homicide charges after police said she delivered the oxycodone that eventually killed another woman.

Police said Sara Peters, of the 5100 block of Willow Drive, Wonder Lake, delivered 15 oxycodone tablets that ultimately caused Deadra D. Block to overdose.

Harvard police arrested Peters on Monday. She was taken to the McHenry County Jail, where she remained Tuesday evening on charges of drug-induced homicide and delivery of a controlled substance.

According to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court, Peters is accused of delivering oxycodone to Block on Dec. 29, although it is unclear whether Block died that same day.

Further details about Block, including her age and address, were not available Tuesday.

Attempts to reach Block’s family for comment were unsuccessful.

Peters' attorney – Hank Sugden of the Crystal Lake firm Madsen, Sugden and Gottemoller – said the case still is too new for him to comment, but he added that his client has no criminal history.

If convicted of the most serious charge, drug-induced homicide, Peters could be sentenced to between six and 30 years in prison.

McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney John Gibbons declined to comment on whether his office expects more arrests in connection with Block’s death.

Peters’ bond has been set at $500,000, and she must post $50,000 bail to be released.

She is due in court Friday.
