ALGONQUIN – Evidence leading to the arrest of a dentist who is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at his Algonquin office included a secretly recorded conversation captured by police, according court records.
Less than a week before Eman Shirazi was confronted with sex assault charges, officers received court permission to record a conversation with the dentist, unbeknownst to Shirazi, according to a Jan. 23 court order.
At the time, Shirazi worked as the general dentist and orthodontist at Water Tower Family Dental, 1496 Merchant Drive, Algonquin.
The office, which is closed Mondays and Fridays, could not immediately be reached for comment. Any mention of Shirazi on the business’ website, however, has been removed, and it is unclear if he actively works out of the office.
On Jan. 11, Shirazi made inappropriate comments toward a woman during a business meeting, police said.
When the woman dismissed and rejected his advances, Shirazi tugged her arm, led her into his office and sexually assaulted her, according to a petition filed in McHenry County court.
Police reported that the woman was too frightened to leave after the alleged assault and stayed for her scheduled appointment with Shirazi, who did the work “forcefully.”
Shirazi’s private attorney, Thomas Loizzo, was out of the office Friday and could not immediately be reached for comment.
A background check revealed Shirazi has no criminal history in Illinois, police said.
McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Scholl declined to comment whether Shirazi, who is due in court April 18, confessed to criminal behavior during the recorded conversation, but said the recording contributed to police evidence that led to his arrest.
