SYCAMORE – Bond was set at $20,000 Thursday for a Chicago man accused of choking his ex-girlfriend, kidnapping her child, then returning the next day and attacking her again.
Police said in court records that Tywan S. Locke, 18, of the 1500 block of South Drake Avenue in Chicago, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, about 14 hours after he returned 2-year-old Caprice McCollum to his maternal grandmother.
Locke has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, kidnapping, aggravated domestic battery and four counts of domestic battery. If convicted of the most serious charge, aggravated kidnapping, he could face six to 30 years in prison.
The records state that Tuesday after the victim broke up with Locke, he grabbed her hair, threw her to the floor, punched her and choked her in her apartment in the 800 block of North Annie Glidden Road, prompting the child to come to his mother’s aid. Only when Locke set the child on the bed was the victim able to escape and call police, the records show, and at that point, Locke took the child, ran through several yards with temperatures below freezing and then drove to Chicago.
The records show Locke gave the boy to the victim's mother about
12:42 a.m., more than two hours after he left DeKalb for Chicago.
The next day, Locke returned to the victim’s apartment, punched her in the head, grabbed her purse when she tried to run away and was arrested at the 7-Eleven at 930 N. Annie Glidden Road, the records show.
“This was behavior that happened day after day,” DeKalb County First Assistant State’s Attorney Stephanie Klein said.
The victim told police she’s certain Locke is not the father.
Klein asked for bond to be set at $250,000, and said Locke has a pending criminal charge, as well as several juvenile cases, but Chief Judge Robbin Stuckert ruled that because there was no evidence that any of his cases resulted in a conviction, bond be set at $20,000. Stuckert said that if he posts $2,000 to be released, he will be placed on electronic home monitoring and not be allowed any contact with the victim, the child or their family members.
