McHenry Goodwill opens community resource center

Agency will offer training sessions and has computers, internet open to public

McHENRY – McHenry's Goodwill has a new amenity for area residents.

Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois has opened a community resource room at its McHenry location,
2006 N. Richmond Road. The room is equipped with 10 computers, internet, a printer, fax machine, phone, projector and resource specialist to help direct clients, the agency announced last week.

The space is open to the public and free to use. Goodwill plans to offer training classes in collaboration with various business partners in the community. Topics for the sessions will include computer skills, veteran benefits, budgeting and resume building, with more to be decided.

Employers are welcome to use the space for recruitment events.

“We are thrilled to open this resource room and work with the great partner agencies in McHenry County to offer additional services to the residents of this area,” said Courtney Geiger, director of Goodwill’s mission services. “We look forward to serving individuals and the community.”

The McHenry County Community Foundation awarded Goodwill a $5,000 grant last year to open the space. Goodwill of Northern Illinois offers a similar center in DeKalb, but this will be the first McHenry County location.

The space is open from 2 to 7 p.m. Mondays, and noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. A full training calendar is available on Goodwill's website at www.goodwillni.org/events-calendar.

Headquartered in Rockford, Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is a nonprofit doing work throughout an 18-county area in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. The company is one of 165 Goodwill agencies under Goodwill Industries International, according to its website.
