Navy veteran wins Algonquin home from Operation Homefront, Chase Bank

ALGONQUIN – Operation Homefront will award a newly renovated, mortgage-free Algonquin home to a U.S. Navy veteran Tuesday.

The national nonprofit announced this week that U.S. Navy Seaman Shynae Murphy is the latest recipient of a McHenry County home donated by Chase Bank.

It’s part of Operation Homefront’s “Homes on the Homefront” program, for which the organization partners with corporations to award mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families.

The homes are donated by bank partners, including Chase and other major financial services companies.

The home is in the 700 block of Tanglewood Drive in Algonquin.

As a seaman, Murphy worked in aviation maintenance and specialized in quality assurance, making sure bomb skids were not tampered with. In 2007, she toured the Pacific Ocean and served in Dubai, Iran, Singapore and Hong Kong before being honorably discharged in 2010, according to a news release from Operation Homefront.

Military families can visit www.homesonthehomefront.org and look for available homes they'd like to move into. Interested candidates can qualify for these homes if they currently are serving in the military, were honorably discharged, do not own a home and do not have any felony convictions.
