Letter: Stop Thelen expansion in Lakemoor

To the Editor:

The village of Lakemoor is trying to allow Thelen Sand & Gravel to expand its gravel pit operation, effectively propelling Lakemoor to be the armpit of McHenry County for the next six decades.

Instead of working to bring commercial and residential development to the Route 120 corridor, trustees instead opt for allowing Thelen to degrade the image and quality for their residents for the next 60 years. What a legacy!

Who could possibly want toxic waste, dust, noise, watershed damage and diesel exhaust to permeate Lakemoor for the next 60 years? It is your board of trustees and owners of Thelen who want this.

There are many thousands of undeveloped acres in McHenry County without existing homes that have the same mining potential. Thelen should move there.

Now is the time to stand up against this abhorrent breach of community trust by the Village Board. Contact trustees immediately and demand they not allow Thelen to destroy a small residential community by allowing it to be dominated by an enterprise toxic to your quality of life and property values.

Lakemoor, the village of progress? Lakemoor, the armpit of McHenry County.
