Glen Ellyn creates new parking rules on Lenox Road

GLEN ELLYN – There are new restrictions for parking on Lenox Road between Hawthorne Boulevard and Linden Street in Glen Ellyn.

At their Jan. 22 Village Board meeting, Glen Ellyn trustees unanimously approved the new rules, which prohibit parking on the east side of Lenox from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on school days except by special permit. In addition, parking on the east side of Lenox is limited to one hour. The three-hour parking restrictions north of Linden will stay in place.

The village has been working with residents on Lenox Road to explore expanding the student permit parking program for Glenbard West High School while at the same time creating parking for users of the refurbished tot lot in the Glen Ellyn Park District's Lake Ellyn Park.

"Currently, it is difficult for users of the tot lot to park there because all of the on-street space is taken by Glenbard West students," Glen Ellyn Police Chief Phil Norton said in a memo to trustees.

The village held two neighborhood meetings and sent out two surveys seeking resident input regarding the issue. The new rules are designed to create 10 parking spaces for users of the park/tot lot with a one-hour restriction.

In addition, the new parking restrictions create 17 spaces for students with permits during the school day. The high school staff will be responsible for issuing permits.

Trustees will further evaluate the parking restrictions at the April Village Board workshop at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center.
