Scenes from Sandwich’s past: Valley West Hospital

Valley West Hospital opened as the Sandwich Community Hospital at the corner of Main and Pleasant streets in the spring of 1960. It replaced the H.N. Woodward Memorial Hospital on North Main Street. Kishwaukee Hospital of DeKalb purchased it in 2002, made several renovations, and renamed it Valley West Community Hospital. A large new addition to the north was started in late 2012 and when finished the south end of the original hospital was to be removed. At the end of 2015, the KishHealth System became affiliated with Northwestern Memorial and the Sandwich hospital was renamed Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital.
