Newsmaker of the Year: Elburn Police Chief Nick Sikora gets no-confidence vote

Elburn Police Chief Nick Sikora and unionized police officers were revealed to be at odds after a March 14 letter detailing a no-confidence vote in Sikora from the Illinois Council of Police came to light.

Allegations included in the letter focused on a "lack of leadership, mismanagement and poor policy decisions."

On May 1, the Elburn Village Board voted 5-1 to reappoint Sikora as police chief, with Trustee Dave Gualdoni casting the lone no vote. Gualdoni had stated, "This [a no-confidence vote] does not happen by accident."

Village President Jeff Walter said as of June that there has been progress, with "a hit list of things, some internal changes on scheduling things recently.” Sikora also said that he and village officials would continue to address issues brought up by union representatives.
