Local brewery plans production facility expansion

MOKENA — Mokena’s Tribes Beer Co. is expanding its brewing operations to a third facility at 11120 Front Road in Mokena.

The structure currently at the address, a former auto service station built during the 1940s, will be restored to its 20th Century aesthetic to make room for the 15-barrel facility.

The Village of Mokena’s Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee is set to vote on the the facility during its Dec. 6 meeting.

Niall Freyne, owner of Tribes Beer Co., said the facility will house the future brewing and canning operations. Freyne added that the facility would offer a tasting room and beer garden.

The new facility will be located across the street from Mokena’s Metra station.

“We’re looking forward to seeing our regular customers and meeting new friends too,” Freyne said.

Tribes Beer Co. opened in 2009 in Mokena and expand to Tinley Park in 2012.

Freyne said he anticipates a 2018 summer opening.
