SYCAMORE – Bond was set at $50,000 for a Bolingbrook man accused of holing up a woman in a DeKalb apartment for 20 hours and beating her every time she tried to leave.

Martez D. Morgan, 30, of the first block of Fernwood Drive, is charged with aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint, interference of a report of domestic violence and two counts of domestic battery. If convicted of the most serious charge, aggravated domestic battery, Morgan could face three to seven years in prison.

Police said in court records that from about 3 p.m. Oct. 10 until after 11 a.m. Oct. 11, Morgan held a woman in an apartment in the 700 block of Russell Road, and that she tried to escape five times, each time resulting in her being beaten. The victim said in court records that she was punched at least 20 times, that Morgan held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her, and that he choked her multiple times.

The records also show Morgan took away both the victim’s phone and her daughter’s phone to keep her from calling police.

Judge Bradley Waller set bond at $100,000 on Saturday, and Chief Judge Robbin Stuckert amended it to $50,000 on Monday afternoon, adding that if he posts $5,000 bail to be released, he be placed on electronic home monitoring and have no contact with the victim.

Public defender Tom McCulloch said he’d file a motion to reduce bond, which will be heard at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
