Yorkville Intermediate School hosted its first annual McTeacher's Night at the Yorkville McDonald's on Veterans Parkway on Wednesday, Nov. 8. A McTeacher's Night is organized to help raise money for local schools by having the teachers work at McDonald's and then giving a percentage of the night's sales to the local school.
As part of the event, the restaurant was taken over by teachers who prepared meals for students and their families to raise money for Yorkville Intermediate School PTO.
Nine teachers and staff members from the Intermediate School worked the event, including Principal Steve Bjork and Assistant Principal Brett Kueker. The McTeacher's jobs included greeting guests, cleaning the lobby, working the front counter, serving drinks, clearing tables, selling pies and even dressing up in a pie costume – all duties which were executed with great enthusiasm.
Yorkville Intermediate teachers Pfingston, Martinez and Pehlke had a blast dancing around the restaurant in a pie costume. Kueker started off the night in the Pie Box. They were encouraging the families to make a donation and receive a hot apple pie.
A special thank you goes to Kristi O'Leary who organized the event, as well as everyone that worked and attended the event. Yorkville Intermediate teachers worked hard and with excitement, while the families enjoyed the evening. The Yorkville Intermediate PTO plans to use the money raised to purchase a microphone system for the gymnasium and help with the purchase of Chromebooks.
