La Grange District 105 board member to run for Durkin's House seat

La Grange School District 105 Board of Education member Elyse Hoffenberg has announced she plans to run in the Democratic primary for Illinois House District 82, a seat currently held by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin of Western Springs.

The 82nd District includes La Grange, Lemont, Burr Ridge, Western Springs and Homer Glen.

Hoffenberg is a mother of three, active community volunteer and attorney, according to her campaign news release. In addition to her role on the District 105 school board, she also is a member of the village of La Grange Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.

In the release, Hoffenberg criticized a recent House vote regarding right-to-work zones and said she will "challenge the status quo at all levels of government with independent leadership and common-sense solutions that will help protect and rebuild the middle class."

Hoffenberg filed paperwork with the State Board of Elections to form a candidate committee after the House failed to override Gov. Bruce Rauner's veto of legislation that would prohibit local governments from enacting right-to-work zones, the release stated.

“Our representative in the Capitol needs to speak for us, not the political boss who finances his campaign,” Hoffenberg said in the release. “The only people I will be working for are the people of this district.”

Burr Ridge Mayor Mickey Straub announced in October he plans to run in the Republican primary for the 82nd District.
