Rock Falls High School October Student of the Month: Karley Crady

Karley Crady is Rock Fall High School’s October Student of the Month. Her parents are Shelby and Lonnie Crady and her siblings are Samara Russell, 28, of Los Angeles and Nicole Wagner, 34 of Rock Falls.

Favorite class? CEO at the Whiteside Area Career Center. I can say without a single doubt that CEO was the most influential and meaningful class I have taken throughout all of high school.

Least-favorite class? Math 3, my junior year. The struggle was real.

Favorite teacher? Lucas Madding. He has a unique teaching technique that makes learning Spanish fun and interactive, not just boring memorization.

School activities?: Football and basketball cheerleading, Student Council president, vice president of the Class of 2018, Secretary of National Honor Society, BLIND leader, and member of Junior Optimists.

Do you have a job? Selmi's Pumpkin Patch.

How would you describe your group of friends? Fun-loving and motivating. We always push each other to be the best we can.

What will you do after high school? I plan to attend a 4-year university to major in history with a concentration in secondary social studies teaching.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you'll never use? The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

What kind of music are you listening to? A little bit of it all: indie/alternative, pop, rap, and rock.

What's one thing in your life you can't do without? Chocolate.

What is your advice for surviving high school? Put food in your locker. Snacks are key to success.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? More AP courses.

What scares you? I have always been scared of letting down the people who mean the most to me, which is what has pushed me so far in school. Also, snakes, because they are gross.

What's something about you that nobody knows? I've been a vegetarian all of high school.

If you could try any job for a day, what would it be? A "Today" host. I have always been interested in TV broadcast and my mom and I have watched "Today" every morning for as long as I can remember.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, what would it be? Los Angeles. My sister and her husband recently moved there and my family has not been able to visit yet, and I miss her (and her dogs).

Who is your hero/role model? My mom. She has been so strong over every obstacle she has faced in life. I strive to be as loving, funny, and powerful as she is every day.

What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? Happy, healthy and rich with both memories and money.

Shout out to: My friends, Dylan, Kaitlin and Ross.
