Mokena students recycle, make Frisbees

MOKENA – Joan O’Keefe from the Will County Land Use Department recently presented to the Arbury Hills second-grade classes.

Students learned about recycling and vermicomposting. One class has a vermicomposting bin in the classroom. Students put their apple cores, banana peels and more to feed the Red Wiggler Worms in the bin. The worms turn the food scraps into rich soil.

Three students won Frisbees made from recycled plastic bottles and detergent containers. All of the students received a pencil made from recycled newspapers.
