LANARK – A 25-year-old Lanark man was killed Tuesday morning in a head-on collision with a semitrailer near Cuba City, Wisconsin, where he worked.
Austin Todd Shellhause, who also lived in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, was eastbound in a 2013 Ford F150 when he crested a small hill on Tibbits Road and traveled into the path of the westbound 1997 Peterbilt, which was hauling grain, the Lafayette Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Shellhause was flown to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, where he died.
His passenger, Kyle J. Mulcahy, 25, of Darlington, Wisconsin, and the semi driver, Steven H. Jones of Rewey, Wisconsin, who tried to avoid the crash, were taken to Upland Hills Hospital in Dodgeville with minor injuries, the release said.
Shellhause, a store manager for Sloan Implement in Cuba City, worked on the Boelkens, Janssen and Sturtevant Farms; played third base on Eastland High School’s 2009 team, which placed fourth is state; attended Highland College in Freeport and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Platteville with an ag business/animal science degree in 2014.
Among others, he is survived by his mother, Gina Hockman of Freeport; his father, Todd Shellhause of Lanark; his sister, Hannah Shellhause of Loveland, Colorado; his maternal grandfather, Dean White of Roscoe; his paternal grandfather, Steve Shellhause of Lanark; and his girlfriend, Marie Muir of Dubuque, Iowa.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and his funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastland High School, where he graduated in 2010.
