SYCAMORE – A DeKalb County judge set bond at $50,000 Tuesday for 35-year-old DeKalb man accused of inappropriate touching an underage member of his family.
Matthew R. Walsh, of the 200 block of Home Drive, is charged with aggravated criminal sex abuse, unlawful restraint and domestic battery. If he’s convicted of the most serious offense, aggravated criminal sex abuse, he could face three to seven years in prison. He could also get probation, and if he serves time in prison, he’d get two years of parole.
Police said in court records that on Monday, Walsh pinned down a girl younger than 18 and touched her in an inappropriate manner in multiple places.
Walsh, his arms folded on the table, didn't look up while appearing in court from the jail via closed-circuit television.
If he posts $5,000 bail to be released, he’ll be placed on electronic home monitoring and forbidden contact with the victim, Judge William Brady ruled.
Assistant State’s Attorney Alesandra Friend asked for Walsh to be ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet if he’s released, because she said the victim told her Walsh was drunk at the time of the incident.
Friend told Brady that Walsh has two prior domestic battery convictions, including one against the victim’s mother, for which he was still on probation at the time of the new offense.
A petition hearing to revoke bond on that offense will be help Oct. 18, and a preliminary hearing on the new charges was set for Oct. 27.
