OMG! closes restaurants in downtown Elmhurst, Wheaton

In the face of slow sales and personnel problems, OMG! has closed its restaurants at 105 S. York Road in Elmhurst and 390 W. Front St. in Wheaton.

OMG! Cafe in Wheaton closed in July, and OMG! Brunch & Boutique in Elmhurst closed Sept. 7. Owner Mary Moy-Gregg had opened OMG! Cafe in October 2016 after previously opening OMG! Brunch & Boutique in 2015.

"I had to make a tough decision," the longtime Elmhurst resident said.

OMG! Cafe featured made-to-order egg dishes, artisanal grab-and-go items and homemade bakery items. She originally planned to reopen the Wheaton restaurant with a new concept, but she is now selling the restaurant. The space previously had housed Peet’s Coffee and Caribou Coffee.

"I'm hoping to find someone to take it over as it is," Moy-Gregg said. "They could change the name, if they want. I'm agreeable to that."

That includes the possibility of having Shane's Deli – currently located at 201 W. Wesley St. in downtown Wheaton – taking over the space.

"He did lose renewal of his lease," Moy-Gregg said. "He doesn't know how long he is going to be there, [if he] is going to be there one month or six months from now. I know it would be a good space for a deli. It would be perfect for them."

Moy-Gregg also is holding out the possibility she will partner with someone in running the Elmhurst restaurant.

"We'll see what happens," she said. "I'm feeling positive about the decisions I made, even though I'm feeling sad because customers are still contacting me for reservations... I know I made a difference in people's lives, and it was good."
