Illinois Department of Corrections to hold open house at new Joliet Treatment Center

JOLIET – The Illinois Department of Corrections will have an open house Thursday for the new Joliet Treatment Center.

The public is invited to the event, which includes a program at 3:15 p.m. and tours from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m.

The Joliet Treatment Center, at 2848 W. McDonough St., is on the site of the former Illinois Youth Center-Joliet.

The residential treatment facility for inmates with severe mental illness has been in the works since 2014. The facility was created in response to litigation over treatment of inmates with mental illness.

The former Illinois Youth Center-Joliet closed in February 2013.
