This year’s Fiesta Days in McHenry mixes things up a bit with an extra day of music and a fresh carnival.
The 69th annual festival – one of the largest in Illinois – runs July 13-23, with events taking place at Petersen and Veterans Memorial parks and throughout McHenry. Instead of drawing a national music act this year, organizers added an extra day to the Music Fest, running July 13-16.
That way, ticket prices can be kept at a minimum, and festival-goers tend to enjoy the popular local bands quite a bit, said Kay Bates, president of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the event.
“It’s not that we’re never going to [bring in the national acts] again, but we just wanted to explore something a little different this year,” she said.
A fresh carnival company will be used for this year’s festival. And with a free day on Sunday, the fest aims to bring in families with inflatables, face-painting and giveways, Bates said. The food vendors throughout the festival all offer $3 items “so everyone gets the chance to try everything without spending a fortune,” she said.
The event typically draws anywhere from 12,000 to 20,000 people throughout its run, she said. Tickets cost $5 a night for the July 13-15 Music Fest. Tickets can be bought at the gate and are available online this year at www.mchenryfiestadays.com. For information on the festival, visit www.mchenryfiestadays.com or 815-385-4300.
