SHOREWOOD – A local attorney has been appointed to fulfill a vacancy on the Troy Township Board of Supervisors.

Bryan Kopman was named last month to serve out the term of Don Walden, who died in May.

Kopman had been township collector when he was appointed. Trustees John Theobald and Brett Wheeler also were collectors before being appointed to the board.

“Moving the collector to the trustee position means that we are bringing a person onto the board who is already familiar with Troy Township and our operations," Township Supervisor Joseph Baltz said in a statement.

Kopman is a lifelong resident of Will County and has lived in Troy Township since 2000. Kopman is a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School, Northwestern University, and University of Notre Dame Law School.

An attorney for 22 years, Kopman is a partner at Kavanagh Grumley & Gorbold, LLC.

"I greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve the residents of Troy Township that Supervisor Baltz and the board have given me," Kopman said in a statement. "I look forward to working with them and carrying on Don Walden's legacy of exemplary and dedicated public service to our residents."

Kopman is also a member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Parish and has served on the boards of numerous organizations and volunteered as a coach at Troy Baseball, St. Raymond School, Joliet Park District and the YMCA. He and his wife, Jan, have four children.
