Lockport High School D-205 to interview applicants for board seat

LOCKPORT – Lockport Township High School District 205 board will interview candidates to fill a vacancy Wednesday.

The board is scheduled for a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the principal’s conference room, 1333 E. Seventh Street. The board will convene in closed session to discuss the selection of a person to fill a seat.

No action will be taken at the meeting.

District officials announced in early May a need to fill a seat after the resignation of former board member Mike Petty. His resignation was accepted at the May 15 meeting.

According to minutes from a special meeting on May 1, Petty gave the board advance notice that because of personal business, he has missed four meetings and to be “considerate of the board, he is seriously thinking about tendering his resignation,” and was encouraged to do so by his daughter.

Petty is a retired teacher who lives in Homer Glen and has been a board member for more than 20 years, according to the district’s website.

The board will interview six candidates who successfully completed applications for the vacancy, said Gloria Mickulas, executive secretary for Superintendent Todd Wernet, he said in an email.

Mickulas said because the interviews will take place during closed session, district officials “prefer to keep the applicants’ names confidential.”

The deadline for the applications was noon on Tuesday.
