Foxy's River Snack Shack opens at Fox River Grove's Picnic Grove Park

FOX RIVER GROVE – Fox River Grove locals and residents from surrounding communities come to Picnic Grove Park along the Fox River to use the playground, eat at the picnic tables and dock their boats – but resident Lori Czarnecki said there's always been one thing missing from the park.

“For as long as I’ve lived here – since 2008 – I’ve always heard people say, ‘Man, wouldn’t it be a good idea to have food?’ ” Czarnecki said.

That’s why Czarnecki, along with business partner Mike Alvarez, decided to open Foxy’s River Snack Shack at the park. The snack shack opened Memorial Day weekend and served about 200 customers, Czarnecki said.

“People were just so happy,” Czarnecki said. “And the tacos are a big hit.”

Aside from tacos, the stand also sells hot dogs, steak burritos, hamburgers, chips, candy and drinks. Prices range from $1 to $8.

Fox River Grove Village Administrator Derek Soderholm said the Village Board granted a temporary use permit for the business, and the permit can be revoked at any time if the village chooses to do so.

“This is the first year that we’re doing it,” Soderholm said. “The board wanted to explore it and see how it worked.”

The stand is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and Czarnecki said it might start opening Friday, too, if there is enough interest.
